This article comes from eJazzNews.com : The Number One Jazz News Resource On The Net  http://www.ejazznews.com/

To Quote John Gilbert of ejazznews.com:  "An intimate Parisian feeling is expressed in the vocals of Denise Baker. This album consists (thankfully) of standards that are tried and true. Baker delivers her message with no undo histrionics. The songs are sung 'straight' with no pretence or affectation.

"Cheek To Cheek" Denise Baker jumps up a bit with a swanky version of this tune. Pianist Andriy Tykhonov has a chance to show off his semi stride mode and Baker takes his urging to heart and she turns it up a notch.

"I Only have Eyes For You" This song has special meaning for this reviewer and Baker sings it like she means every word. Nice backing by the ensemble makes it fit like a glove.

"A Slow Hot Wind" Is sung with passion and heat ..Baker is true to the lyric in a manner most apropos to the intent of the composer.

This is a record for those of you who like their libation straight, with no unnecessary fuss. Denise Baker is an adherent of the old adage "just sing the song" and the words will carry you home in fine style. 4 stars."

Feedback and Comments: "Love is a Four Letter Word" ...."Great" is a Five Letter Word, which belongs certainly to this classy CD with great skills of all the musicians but especially for Denise who is in control completely of her great voice-spectrum, up - or easy listening all tracks are a pleasure to listen to and before you know it the whole CD has passed and for sure you will start it again and then "Lean Back and Enjoy!"!  ++

Dear Denise, Received your parcel today with 'Love is a 4 letter word'. Thanks for mailing it and more so because it is such an enjoyable album to listen to...I appreciate your choice of pieces. I get scores of CDs, some are nice to listen to, others are (very subjective) brain blowing, others are nice music but not enough jazz. Therefore, listening to you was like coming back home from far away and strange places, back on familiar grounds being at ease with the surroundings

...being or not a jazz aficionado; your album is a perfect example to the style of music that I play. I will be introducing you on March 10 and thereafter. All the best to you and warm regards (nothing to sneer at, its way below freezing right now) and thanks again for a lovely gift. Listen to my jazz show, Judaica FM90.2 (Brussels area), each Thursday 22h to midnight.

Denise Baker's CD is really good. She sent me several to give away and the listeners loved her. Her sound really blends in with what some of the ladies feel are going on in their personal lives.

Dear Jazz Friend,

My name is Carlos Fernandez Pacin, the musical host and producer of one of the most important jazz radio programs in my country Argentina called "JAZZ CAFE-FLAVOUR OF JAZZ". The Director of FM Urquiza gave me your mail, so for us it will be a great honour to have the possibility to retransmit your fine jazz material on FM Urquiza (the first Jazz Radio in Argentina) and on "JAZZ CAFE" (the first daily jazz radio program). Could you please send me your first CD "A Journey To Love"...a few days ago I had received your last work, really fascinated with your beautiful voice and your very good interpretation of the jazz standards. . .

My sincerely regards, Carlos Fernandez Pacin Buenos Aires, Argentina

Reviews for “A Journey In Love”:

"Denise Baker's debut CD " Journey in Love" is a colourful look at love and it's emotional partners.  Denise has a unique way of getting inside the song, shaping it, playing with it, while still remaining true to form.  Add this one to your collection!"  -  Bob Farrow, 94.7 FM The WAVE

"Local chanteuse Denise Baker has recorded a CD - A Journey in Love....A Journey in Love brings Baker's own unique sound, phrasing and interpretation to some of the great standards from Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Billie Holliday and Johnny Mercer....The songs touch and reflect on the various stages of love in one's life, from the innocence through the darker side of the glorious - the point where life shows you that there is something to celebrate."  -  Harry Currie, The Record

"After listening to "Journey in Love", I found it to be refreshing and relaxing.  The selection of songs are well thought out.  Denise's interpretation and delivery of each song is creative and she lets the band play.  The arrangements are up-to-date and the "live" playing (recording) keeps the energy going.  Keep it up, Denise!"  -   Henry Young, International Recording Artist

"Wow. . . a wonderful selection of songs.  Sounds great. Congratulations!"  -  Terry Graff, Director - Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatchewan

"I am a huge fan!"   -  Radio Program: Jazz & Bossa Nova - Brazil
